Tarksheel Society Ontario

Brief History

The Ontario Chapter has a rich history. The founding President of Tarksheel Society Punjab came to Canada in 2004. Baldev Dhindsa and Harpinder Brar connected with Megh Raj Mitter and began forming an adhoc committee. The first adhoc executive had nine members: Baldev (Rehpa) Dhindsa, Harpinder Brar, Harpreet Brar, Balraj Shokar, Harbans Malhi, Jaswinder Sandhu, Kuldip Sandhu, Kuldip Chahal, and Tejinderjit Bedi.

Our first major event was a play called “Naatak Barha Ghar (Big House)” performed by Avtar Gill and other members from Vancouver. The play attracted 1200 people and was a big success. After some ups and downs, Jaswinder Sandhu became President. In 2006, not much activity happened, and the old name and committee were disbanded. In 2007, the North American Tarksheel Society was reconstructed and worked until it merged under Tarksheel (Rationalist) Society Canada.
